Like many consumer goods companies, Softlips found themselves with excess product available in their warehouse. To get their lip balms into the hands of their customers, Softlips approached Quinlan with a unique challenge: Activate the brand in a test market and sell the unused product to the target audience (primarily 14-to 17-year-old girls).

Quinlan's media team worked quickly to identify a retail setting with heavy traffic and the right demographic of shoppers. We chose an outlet mall and negotiated one of the highest foot traffic areas: In front of a main entrance and close to popular stores for teens.

In less than two weeks, we recruited and trained staff and designed and stocked the Softlips holiday kiosk. The strategy for the kiosk presence was to drive shoppers to stop by for “stocking stuffers,” making the lip balms an easy add-on purchase, and one that was affordable for teens. We designed the kiosk with a holiday theme, but skill kept true to the young, fun and feminine Sotftlips brand.

The kiosk sold over 2,500 product units in just a few short weekends. The staff gathered positive feedback from customers and valuable insight on their favorite products and flavors.
